Started Something New
Updated:
I started a new thing this week. A job. Not sure how long it'll last, but after five months searching I found what I was assuming would be my Next Thing here in Portland. And then as has so often happened when I've spent a long time finding one thing, I almost immediately stumbled into something I liked even better.
What is it? I don't really know yet. An acquired startup. A startup within a large company, a Fortune 50. Actually just what I was looking for: I've been intrigued for a while now about the idea of funding a startup inside of any of these legacy public companies that are rife with post-financial crisis cash.
It's a new business domain for me: retail. No payments but all the challenges of a giant catalog and findability and supply chain and delivery logistics. Lots to learn.
I don't know what's going to come of it. Everyone I've met so far is wicked smart, which is a great sign. Let's see what happens next...
Edit: This job turned out to be Home Depot QuoteCenter where I stayed for five and a half years as a Principal Engineer and later an Engineering Manager.
