I've started a new role: Senior Engineering Manager at Built, a Series D-stage fintech SaaS working on transforming the real estate lifecycle. It'll be interesting to be a manager at a post-ZIRP startup: I have a feeling a lot more hands-on approach will be required, and I'm eager for it. I actually considered a few individual contributor roles and also a handful head of engineering roles, but ultimately the upper-middle of the pyramid is where I want to be right now. A good spot to do something big and have a positive impact on some first decade engineers' careers. The company has been through a mess this year - like a lot of VC-backed startups making the hard pivot from topline growth at all costs to profitability at all caution - but ultimately it was the mission that sold me: let's make building housing in the United States faster and easier.
