Making software and software development teams. Mostly the people parts.

Seven For Sunday was my weekly tech newsletter. Launched in mid-2019, I sent subscribers links to seven posts, tweets, videos or other content that had inspired me or that I'd learned from that week.

This was less a solve your own problem product and more of a well, I did the work to solve my problem, now I might as well share it with the world kind of thing.

In 2019 I was about four years into this journey in engineering leadership, and also the little startup group I had joined right after its acquisition by a large public company had just gotten subsumed into a corporate division, and so there were all sorts of interesting situations I was thinking about, and trying to build myself a set of first principles for being an engineering leader.

So I was already consuming a lot of content. And it just made sense to arbitrarily say each week, out of the maybe one hundred things I read or watch, I'll compile the top seven into a list and send it to people I know who want it.

This went on for close to a year. Then Covid hit, and everything went sideways, and I realized it was time to move on and leave that job, and writing a weekly newsletter didn't seem like the thing I wanted to be doing anymore.

Today there are quite a few people doing this, and doing it better than I ever did. Software Lead Weekly is my favorite. Also you can ask Gemini or ChatGPT or Claude for a reading list based on a list of topics, and that's possibly an even better solution for all involved, provided you can be proactive about it.

One final note: The posts that remain are not the complete archive; more like a best of collection. I pruned out everything with dead links, or that just didn't seem like high quality content from the distance of seven years.
