Gary Snyder's Poem On How We Go On

I spent time with one of my favorite poems the other day: Axe Handles by Gary Snyder.

I've crossed the 20 years in tech threshold. Built some amazing products. But it's the people and being part of people's lives and careers that stands out in my mind and memory.

And I say this to Kai
"Look: We'll shape the handle
By checking the handle
Of the axe we cut with—"
And he sees.

A friend of mine told me something: "We stand on the shoulders of everyone who came before us, and our time here is to build strong shoulders so that the next ones may stand on ours."

This is what I want to do more of during my third decade in tech.
